Run Auto DM from Claude or ChatGPT
Auto DM is an MCP server (Model Context Protocol, the open standard both Claude and ChatGPT use for tools). Connect it once and say things like "put a LINK rule on my latest reel that DMs the Notion template" or "which comments failed this week?". The assistant uses the same rules, limits and guards as the dashboard.
Step 1
Sign in to create your access token
Part of the Pro (₹149 a month) and Agency plans. Every login gets its own token, and an assistant using it sees only that login's Instagram accounts and rules.
Sign in → Create a free account
You come straight back to this page afterwards. Full write-up with FAQ: viaepic.com/autodm-mcp.
Step 2 · connect your assistant
Claude (claude.ai, desktop, mobile)
- Open Settings → Connectors (on a Team or Enterprise plan an admin may need to allow custom connectors).
- Choose Add custom connector.
- Name it Auto DM and paste the connector URL below. Leave the OAuth fields empty.
- In a new chat, enable Auto DM under the tools menu. Start with "list my Auto DM accounts".

ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business)
- Open Settings → Apps & Connectors → Advanced settings and switch on Developer mode.
- Back in Apps & Connectors choose Create.
- Name Auto DM, paste the connector URL as the MCP server URL, authentication No authentication (the token is in the URL), tick the acknowledgement and create.
- In a chat, open the + menu, pick Auto DM, and ask away.

What your assistant can do
The Instagram accounts connected to this Auto DM login, with plan, DMs used this month and the monthly limit.
Recent posts and reels of an account, newest first, with id, kind, date, caption, comment count and how many rules each post has.
Details of one post or reel (caption, kind, permalink, comment count), the rules on it, and its last DMs and replies..
All rules of an account: global rules (every post) and post rules.
Add a keyword → DM rule on one post (post_id) or on every post (no post_id).
Change a rule's keywords, match type, DM, public reply, or pause/resume it (active).
Permanently delete a rule.
The latest DM and reply attempts (sent, replied, failed, skipped) with commenter, keyword, post and any error, plus this month's usage against the plan..
Dry run: given a comment text (and optionally the post it is on), shows which rule would fire and the exact DM and public reply a follower would receive.
Not included on purpose: sending DMs or broadcasts. Those stay in the dashboard where you see the recipient list and a progress bar before anything goes out.
Things to try
- "Show my last 10 reels and which ones have no rule yet."
- "Add a rule on the newest reel: keywords LINK and GUIDE, DM the link https://… with a friendly line, and three different public replies."
- "If someone comments 'link pls' on that reel, what exactly do they receive?"
- "Which DMs failed this week and why?"
- "Pause every rule that mentions the webinar."
Safety
- Your rules, not your Instagram login. The token works only against Auto DM. Instagram's permission stays where it was, granted by you on Instagram's screen.
- Revoke any time. One click above disconnects every assistant. Generating a new token does the same.
- Same guard rails. Rules created by an assistant follow the 24-hour repeat guard, your plan's limits and Instagram's 7-day DM window, exactly like rules made here.
- Assistants ask before writing. Claude and ChatGPT confirm with you before they create, change or delete a rule. Read-only questions run without prompts.
